First day of school after a fairly long summer holiday. Feels good to be back to normal again. Me and the 4 year old went to a playgroup in the village. While he was playing, mom was of course knitting and talking to the other moms . Actually one dad had the courage to be there as well. Way to go dad!
I started knitting this cap yesterday, and I would have finished it at the playgroup if I had remembered to bring the other needles. But I had to forget something, and I am lucky it was just the needles this time and not my head. oh well...
I do like very much the colours of this yarn which is 100% woolen and called Topp`t Tå . The yarn is thicker then the yarn I have knit the other caps in. They also had this yarn in blue/green colour, so my next small project might be to knit a pair of slippers in that, which is something I havent tried before. I am totally happy at the moment to make things that only takes a day or two.
I have yarn for a sweater lying in my basket screaming at me to start knit it, but I pretend not to hear it. hehe... It would only end up being an UFO ( UnFinishedObject ) , and I have enough of those really.....
I have also finshed the grey cap today, which is made in Sørlandsgarn. 100% woolen but some thinner then the red/yellow cap.

I finished the mittens and started making some more caps. First this red one. My son, the model, who is all about being cool, said the cap is pretty ( he is such a polite little boy...hehe.) but that the cap doesnt qualify as a " cool" one..
It is very nice and warm though, double knit around the ears, made of a yarn called Østlandsgarn which is 100 % woolen.
The next cap I also knitted in the same kind of yarn, less pattern and other colours. When I asked my son if this cap was cool or what, then he took a look at it....and came to the conclusion that the cap was cool!! YAY !! Way to go mom ! Finally a cool cap!
This cap is " one size fits all" . The knitting technique makes it fit nicely around the head of both him and mom. So the big brother saw this cap and agreed that it was a good one....and ordered a black one...and his sister wanted a red one....so mom will get busy.
The very cool 4 year old boy was heading out for playschool when I took these photos. Do I live in the land of midnight sun you say? The land where the summers are like one long sunny day with no nights between?? ermm....I wish.... I seem to live in the land of fog, rain and coldish days, where cool boys still has to wear woolen caps to playschool in AUGUST!! argh!! ( sigh)

Yep, another lazy day. I am starting to think it will be a good thing when school starts again.
Today I started knitting some woolen mittens. They are kids size 6 -8 years. I am knitting them in a yarn called Østlandsgarn.

Housework or knitting??? ....the choices!
So I had a lot of things to do this morning......fascinating housework stuff and fun laundry and such...and ...well......I decided to let the good stuff wait and finish the knitted cap from yesterday.
I think it turned out well, and I got all mushy thinking about when my kids wore a cap like this when they were little. So I presented the hat to my soo big 4 year old son who is nearly 5 and who is all about being cool. He said it was a great hat.....and he is so not going to wear it... it isnt cool enough..
Mom thinks its a supercool cap...but mom doesnt have a clue about what very big 4 year old boys who will be 5 before you know it, thinks is cool. ........so there

My kids had this kind of hat when they were a couple of years old, and they were soo adorable in it.
I needed something to do while we were going off the island to visit my parents in law, so I started making this one. Knitting in the car seems to be a bad thing for my neck and shoulders though, so I will have to slow down on that.
I knit it with not too thick woolen yarn, and needles no 2 and 2 1/2, so its not as quick to knit as the other caps I have been making, but I think the result will be good.

Knitting by the swimming pool
Did you spend some days on holiday in Norway this summer? If you stayed in the Lillehammer area, did you see a woman sitting by the swimming pool knitting thick woolen socks? in the sun?
If you did it might have been me.
Did you wonder if she was sane at all? No, wait! No need to answer that!
I did get quite some knitting done, several headbands and hats, and some pairs of socks. I am going to stop knitting the socks though, they take quite some time to finish. Instead I am going to start knit some childrens caps I think.
No I didnt ruin my families holiday with my knitting, I did it as discreetly as compulsive knitter can do.
We spent some days in the Lillehammer area first, then we went to Oslo, where we got to stay in my sisterinlaws flat(we are so lucky to be able to stay there), and then we went to Sweden. To Gøteborg ,and Ørebro . Ørebro is of course the place to go if you want to meet Norwegians in the summer time, as it seems we all end up there. Anyway, it was fun.

I am leaving for a holiday trip tomorrow morning, and I am busy packing. So far I have packed the important stuff- yarn and some patterns, so I will have something to keep my hands busy with while driving south. ( just so you know- I am not driving the car, I am just a passenger ) .
We went to visit my parents this weekend, and while there my mom asked me if I would bring my knitting.
So my husband answered for me, saying : No, she will not. ( he knew I would )
I just looked at him and said: Sure, I will leave my knitting at home, if you leave your cellphone at home as well :-)
Needless to say - nothing more was said about that, and I will bring my knitting - he will bring his cell phone, heheh.
This morning I went to the neighbour village, where this hobby shop had EVERYTHING at half price, because they were closing down. I did not go bananas, but I felt like it. I am not good at using my elbows at such events, so I went there thinking I will just look around. And to my surprice there wasnt much people at all. And they were not looking for the stuff I was looking for. So I got some great stuff for reasonable prices. Actually I could use twice as much as I bought, but since we are going on holiday, and well.......sad to say I dont have a money tree in my garden.....
anyway....I better get on with the packing....we are going to put 4 kids + us and a tent and all the gear in a not too big car, and head south. First we are staying a few days close to Lillehammer, then we are going to Oslo for a few days, and then we are heading over to Sweden. It should be fun :-)

I do like living on an island, but the backside of living here is that we have to take a ferry to get out of this place. It is so boring having to take the ferry to go to the mainland, and even more boring to sit in the car waiting for the ferry to come. At least when we get on that ferry and head across the fjord there is some movement. But anyway.....we make the best of it, read the paper, talk, make plans or something, while the kids have fun fighting in the backseat of the car.
Yesterday we headed for the mainland again, and I always try to remember to take some handcraft with me, to pass the time doing something useful ( yes I consider even the most useless handcrafts to be useful) (by the way.......yesterday my hubbie took a look at what I made and said: Why are you making that? What on earth are you going to use it for?? I guess I dont have to say that the answer he got from me was " The look" hmph)
This is what I made, a Hardanger heart. I am not an expert at Hardanger embroidery, but I do think it is fun.

I went to visit my parents a couple of days, and of course I had my knitting along with me. I have bought some thicker yarn for the Russe pattern which I wanted to try out. And first I made a headband in some colours I havent tried before, not too bad I think...
Then I started on a pair of socks in the same kind of yarn, and of course I ran out of the white colour....so I havent been able to finish them yet..
The green thread across the sock is where I knit in the triangle heel after the rest of the sock is done.

Aprons with embroidery on
I have been sewing some more aprons lately.
I do now and then get questions about aprons like this to use with girls bunads. And they are not that easy to find, they mostly come as part of the outfit when you buy new ones.
So I found this very nice material with a beautiful machine embroidery, and I make aprons in 3 sizes mostly.
